The city of Berkeley’s Telegraph district has recently experienced both an economic improvement and an increase in positive perception, according to a report from the city’s Office of Economic Development and an annual survey from the Telegraph Business Improvement District, or TBID.

Berkeley City Council tosses out businesses’ noncompostable foodware

Members of the public stood up and applauded after Berkeley City Council members voted unanimously to pass what Mayor Jesse Arreguín described on Twitter as “the most ambitious, groundbreaking policy” in the country to reduce the usage of disposable, noncompostable foodware items such as plates and utensils.

Berkeley City Council to vote on sidewalk, homeless encampment policies

Under the proposed encampment policy, the city would be able to remove homeless encampments at its discretion. The sidewalk policy would limit individuals living on the streets to 9 square feet of space for their belongings.
