Next year’s executive offices will be filled by independent candidate Victoria Vera as president, current ASUC Senator Melvin Tangonan as executive vice president, current ASUC Senator Nicole Anyanwu as academic affairs vice president, current ASUC Senator Derek Imai as external affairs vice president and independent candidate Joyce Huchin as student advocate.

Independent candidates will dominate the ASUC Senate in the next academic year, as announced during the tabulation ceremony Friday. 38 candidates ran for ASUC Senate, including 10 candidates from Student Action, which won a majority of seats last year. Four candidates ran for transfer student representative, a new office in the ASUC.

ASUC Senate hopeful Lauren-Cecile Lizardo Galang dropped out of the race Saturday, two days before voting opened.

The ASUC Judicial Council unanimously overturned a decision by the ASUC Elections Council at its virtual meeting Saturday, granting party status to the Transfer Coalition in the 2020 election.

ASUC presidential candidate Haazim Amirali suspended his campaign Sunday night. Amirali is a current ASUC senator and ran his campaign with Student Action.

For the upcoming ASUC election cycle, four official parties are running candidates: Defend Affirmative Action Party/Fighting for Immigrant Rights and Equality, or DAAP/FIRE, Student Action, People’s Party and REBUILD.

Student Action has named Julia Castro, Samuel Peng, Michael Savides, Ronit Sholkoff and Rex Zhang as senate candidates for the upcoming ASUC election.

Student Action has named Ruchi Shah, Ellis Spickermann, Steve Sasoung Kim, Maddy Chen, Sheena Dichoso Echano and Lauren-Cecile Lizardo Galang as senate candidates for the upcoming ASUC election.

Student Action announced March 8 that current ASUC Senators Haazim Amirali and Melvin Tangonan are running for next academic year’s ASUC president and executive vice president, respectively.
