Having faced Arizona and Arizona State this weekend only to be handed two more losses, a pattern became apparent.

The tandem adds to the youth movement in the East Bay, where Cal (7-17) sports only one senior – opposite Sydney Lilomaiava.

Fans in attendance on Sunday afternoon couldn’t believe what they were seeing. The blue and gold won the first two sets, forcing Utah to burn four timeouts.

The Bears were swept in Tucson, just as they were in Tempe. The tandem of defeats puts Cal’s streak of losses up to a daunting eight.

Cal volleyball will migrate south to sunny Southern California this weekend to face off against No. 13 UCLA and attempt to gobble up a dub.

The Bears will need to take all the lessons they have learned in the preseason — especially the ability to push through the tough sets — into their demanding conference schedule if they are to find success.

Although young and inexperienced, Cal looked prepared to play No. 22 UCLA in the double match season opener but ultimately lost both matches by a combined score of six sets to one.
