Approved by the University of California Board of Regents on May 18, CDSS is UC Berkeley’s first new college in 50 years. The undergraduate majors in computer science, data science and statistics currently housed in the College of Letters and Science, or L&S, are expected to transition into the new college by spring 2024, according to Assistant Dean of Communications for CDSS Tiffany Lohwater. 

Since the formation of UC Berkeley’s division of Computing, Data Science and Society, or CDSS, students and faculty alike have urged for the establishment their own physical place on campus.

UC Berkeley and Tuskegee University announced a multi-year academic partnership, called the Berkeley-Tuskegee Data Science Initiative, Wednesday.

For the first time in more than 50 years, UC Berkeley may open another college — one for campus’ Division of Computing, Data Science and Society. 

UC Berkeley’s Division of Computing, Data Science and Society, or CDSS, nominated four associate deans with the purpose of diversifying leadership and strengthening the division’s outreach.
