Civil rights group files complaint after UC Berkeley student’s removal from Southwest Airlines flight

Months after then-UC Berkeley student Khairuldeen Makhzoomi was removed from a Southwest Airlines flight after a fellow passenger overheard him speaking Arabic, a civil rights advocacy group has filed a complaint against the airline alleging racial and religious profiling.

City of Oakland, BART receive $6.3 million grant from US Department of Transportation

The U.S. Department of Transportation announced Thursday a $6.3 million grant to the “Go Uptown” project — an initiative to upgrade the 19th Street BART station along with several blocks along 20th Street in Oakland.

AC Transit to recieve $15 million in federal funds for Bus Rapid Transit project

AC Transit will receive a $15 million grant from the U.S. Department of Transportation through its Federal Transit Administration program, Rep. Barbara Lee, D-Oakland, announced Friday.
