11 UC Berkeley Graduate School of Journalism alumni — including two Berkeley Journalism lecturers — have been nominated for the 38th annual News and Documentary Emmy Awards.

UC Berkeley's Graduate School of Journalism has allowed its accreditation with the Accrediting Council on Education in Journalism and Mass Communications (ACEJMC) to expire.

Investigative Reporting Productions, Inc., a nonprofit production company associated with the Graduate School of Journalism, established a formal affiliation with UC Berkeley over the weekend, according to a press release.

Thomas Peele, a lecturer at the UC Berkeley Graduate School of Journalism, was awarded a Pulitzer Prize on Monday along with several other reporters at the East Bay Times, for their coverage of the “Ghost Ship” fire, a tragedy that killed 36 in Oakland last December, including two campus students and two campus alumni.

On Thursday, the California State Supreme Court unanimously ruled that emails and text messages from the personal accounts of public officials in California can be subject to public review, if they are conducting public business on those private accounts.

Former UC Berkeley Graduate School of Journalism professor Bernard Taper, who previously worked at The New Yorker and as one of the Monuments Men after World War II, died Oct. 17 of a bacterial infection. He was 98.

Ben Bagdikian, a respected journalist and former dean of the UC Berkeley Graduate School of Journalism, died Friday at his home in Berkeley. He was 96.

UC Berkeley has instituted supplemental tuition for at least six graduate programs over the last five years at a time when the base tuition fee throughout the UC system is frozen.

Paul “Grabs” Grabowicz, campus professor of journalism, beloved husband and mentor to students at the UC Berkeley Graduate School of Journalism, died of cancer on December 24. He was 66.
