UC Green New Deal

Campus community members gathered to observe a UC-wide Earth Day Climate Rally Friday, also World Earth Day, and called on the UC to be proactive on climate-friendly policies.

Centeno, a campus junior double majoring in ecosystem, management and forestry and data science, said she hopes to support the eco-community at Berkeley through advancing existing environmental justice campaigns while also implementing new ones.

At its regular meeting Wednesday, ASUC officials discussed office updates, heard reports from council and commission chairs and passed several bills.

ASUC presidential candidate Chaka Tellem is running for the office in hopes of building a better Berkeley, one he said will center students’ needs.

Elevate Cal, a newly formed coalition, announced its candidates for several ASUC positions including ASUC president and transfer representative.

With about 300 people in attendance, Students for Climate Action and the Sunrise Movement organized a climate strike Friday to demand the UC system adopt a Green New Deal.

The fight for a UC Green New Deal is not isolated — we should view it as part of the broader struggle against climate change happening worldwide.
