UC Regents convened at UCSF Mission Bay Tuesday and Wednesday to discuss its investment portfolio, budget and benefits and UCSF’s acquisition of two hospitals. 

The UC Board of Regents kicked off its first day of meetings Wednesday at UCSF Mission Bay to discuss topics including climate change goals, budgeting and the recent Supreme Court overturning of Roe v. Wade.

Student regent Devon Graves said he expects that on Wednesday, the regents will continue to support their current enrollment policy welcoming nonresident students in addition to rather than in place of California residents.

The UC Board of Regents, which acts as the governing body of the UC system, has the “full powers of organization and government” according to the California State Constitution. This power is most obviously and publicly exhibited through raising tuition, increasing the salaries of UC chancellors and prolonging UC worker contract negotiations.

On Wednesday, the UC Board of Regents convened at UCSF Mission Bay for its regular board meeting, the first since California State Auditor Elaine Howle raised several concerns about the University of California Office of the President in an April 25 audit report.

The UC Board of Regents will convene later this week at UCSF Mission Bay to vote on the establishment of a non-resident student enrollment policy, discuss the findings of a state audit of the UC Office of the President, and review responses to the UC Graduate Student Well-Being Survey.

SAN FRANCISCO — The UC Board of Regents convened Wednesday at UCSF Mission Bay to discuss a variety of topics, including UC Berkeley student housing recommendations, the potential impact of a repeal of the Affordable Care Act on UC Health and the nomination of Carol Christ — UC Berkeley’s interim executive vice chancellor and provost — as the UC Berkeley chancellor.

The UC Board of Regents will convene Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday at UCSF Mission Bay to vote on an amendment to the systemwide faculty code of conduct, vote on Carol Christ’s appointment as UC Berkeley’s new chancellor and discuss UC investments and undergraduate cost of attendance.

A proposal to cap nonresident undergraduate enrollment at 20 percent systemwide will be discussed at the UC Board of Regents meeting next week.

At its Thursday meeting, the UC Board of Regents preliminarily approved the first systemwide tuition increase since 2011, as a part of a new operating budget plan for the 2017-18 academic year.
