Berkeley City Council voted Tuesday to suspend the city’s ties with its Russian sister cities until Russian hostilities against Ukraine cease.

In the month since Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, Berkeley members have been endlessly organizing to bring the community together and raise humanitarian funds.

The 2016 election of President Donald Trump brought political controversy to the UC Berkeley campus, and now that an impeachment inquiry is underway, campus and city of Berkeley officials have noted that the controversy is likely to continue into the forthcoming election year.
