Indigenous Peoples’ Day Pow Wow goes virtual for second year in a row

Recognized federally for the first time by U.S. President Joseph Biden, Indigenous People's Day saw its 29th annual Pow Wow celebration in Berkeley. The Indigenous Peoples’ Day Pow Wow was celebrated virtually for the second year in a row.

A state appellate court ruled April 20 that a proposed housing and retail complex can be built in the parking lot on a sacred Ohlone shellmound and historic village in West Berkeley.

Ruegg & Ellsworth and the Frank Spenger Company are suing the city of Berkeley and the city’s department of planning and development for rejecting their project at 1900 Fourth St. on the grounds that the city’s decision allegedly goes against SB 35.
