UC libraries continue talks with research publisher Elsevier, enter new agreements

A publishing agreement between the UC system and Elsevier is expected to go into effect Apri 1 and continue through March 31, 2025. The contract will enable open access publishing in more than 2,000 Elsever journals and reestablish UC access to Elsevier journal articles.

UC libraries have initiated open access to university-authored research with two new publication contracts announced in the new year, while the contracts with research giant Elsevier and other publishers remain in flux.

Campus joins movement demanding access to research

UC Berkeley is joining a nationwide effort to increase the availability of academic research to the public in light of rising journal subscription costs and limited access

On April 20, a mass email was sent out to UC Berkeley students, faculty and staff members asking them to sign a petition in support of free, open access to research publications.
