The goal of the UC Berkeley Out of the Darkness suicide prevention walk was to finance mental health research and raise awareness about suicide prevention.

In the light of World Mental Health Day, we at the Clog have compiled a list of mental health resources available on campus to all UC Berkeley students.

UC Berkeley mental health awareness club You Mean More hosted its eighth annual Out of the Darkness Suicide Prevention Walk on Sproul Plaza in partnership with the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention on Saturday.

Through the doors, up the elevator and down the fourth-floor hallway lies a Sutter Health Herrick Campus unit dedicated to assisting those who require psychiatric help. Every year, about 80 UC Berkeley students and faculty members seek treatment for a variety of psychiatric disorders at the center, located at 2001 Dwight Way.

It only takes a few scrolls of UC Berkeley’s Facebook meme page to gauge the mental state of the general UCB student population.

The Office of the Academic Affairs Vice President and You Mean More, a campus club focused on mental health awareness and suicide prevention, hosted UC Berkeley’s first annual mental health conference, “Stronger than Stigma,” on Saturday.

Encouraging proactive dialogue regarding mental health issues on campus, around 550 people walked a 2 mile route through campus Sunday afternoon as a part of a suicide prevention event.
