As the season kicked into high gear, No. 43 Cal had a successful weekend at home defeating Santa Clara and No. 22 Utah in the first official Pac-12 match of the season.

While none of the teams won a title in the main draw, the coaching tandem of head coach Kris Kwinta and assistant coach Francis Sargeant took the court and won in the consolation bracket.

The 2-1 Cal men’s tennis team begins its Pac-12 season this weekend at home taking on No. 23 UCLA on Saturday and No. 8 USC on Sunday.

In its first home dual match of the spring season, Cal men’s tennis battled through wind gusts to defeat the St. Mary’s Gaels 5-2.

After splitting their opening dual matches on the road, the Bears look to knock off St. Mary’s in their spring home opener.

This team performance gives Cal men’s tennis much to look forward to. Hjorth will join Kikuchi in the Super Regionals in seeking an ITA Nationals berth.
