I came back to Berkeley after almost 17 months of doing my “study abroad” during the pandemic. Despite the strange transition period, I’m grateful to finally be back.

Pretty much everyone who went to school during the COVID-19 pandemic understands remote learning. How many of these experiences can you relate to?

The ending of my freshman year was about as anticlimactic as me closing my laptop, but I did feel slightly relieved that a part of it was over. Yet with this relief, I realized that one crucial emotion was missing: pride.

Sadly, none of these potential nominees will win on Sunday. However, they can be the real winners in our hearts, no matter what the academy says.

At any introduction, hearing the leader utter “tell us a fun fact about yourself!” triggers our fight-or-flight response. What even is a “fun” fact anyways?

These voids of stillness on Zoom don't have to be all that uncomfortable. Instead of cringing at the silence, we can learn to embrace it.

I never thought I’d find myself missing those slow, gloomy days in Berkeley when I had no classes but was driven by the mission of getting as much homework and studying done as possible in one day.

As we sit back down at our desks and open up our computers once again, here is why we believe the spring semester is objectively better than the fall.
